The pro illegal open border lobby, funded by the employers of illegals, came up with the slogan that since you can't deport 12 to 20 million illegal aliens, then you have to give them amnesty. The majority of people, however, don't think that uninvited illegal Mexican invaders deserve amnesty. Since the fed gov is dysfuncional on illegal immigration, the new trend is to pass, at the states level, tough on illegals/tough on the employers of illegals laws, which dries up the jobs magnet that draws the illegals here in the first place. With no jobs waiting illegals will stop coming and the ones here, with no jobs either, will be forced to go back to where they came from. This is called SELF DEPORTATION. There is very little cost to American taxpayers. Arizona and Oklahoma passed such laws, which have become the standard for other states, which require MANDATORY e-verification of an employees legal status, removes the business license of repeat offender employers of illegals, and requires PROOF of legality to receive any social services. These laws resulted in a MASS EXODUS of illegals from those states. The current trend,in fighting illegal immigration, is to try to get these tough on illegals/tough on the employers of illegals laws passed in every state.

To do anything about the anchor baby abuse would require changing the interpretation of the 14th amendment. This would have to be done at the fed level, and, of course, the fed gov, as stated, is dysfunctional. There are 300,000 anchor babies born each year to illegals. These anchor babies immediately qualify for every welfare benefit afforded citizens, of which they are. The benefits from a couple of anchor babies can supplement an illegal family quite nicely.
