The real crime in this nation as far as education goes is the power held by the UNIONS. Instead of salaries being based upon "performance", they are based upon tenure regardless of the results displayed. Thus, we have burnt outs, mentally challenged (as in depression), alcohol dependent people teaching the next generation of our best and brightest. The reason for these problems displayed is in the fact the very real challenge presented by this mentally demanding profession when it is preformed correctly. There is no greater responsibility in this nation, and I hold this position in the same regards as I do the profession of being a physician. Why should we accept less from our teachers than we do our Doctors, as both deal in the care and nurturing of the body human...one physical the other mental health? It's time to make some drastic changes in this area, as its been proven that throwing money at the problem will not make it go away.

Have none ever noticed the comparative difference between our higher institutions of learning? Just what diploma holds more weight, an Ivy League, or State Institution? The same principal applies. Why should we accept less than the best to mold the minds of our children? And pay them the value of their worth. Instead spending all our tax monies on landscaping and buildings, spent it on our teachers. Our laws are just simply to lax in consideration of those that offer the education, this indeed is were the problem lies. The problem with "comprehension" is not found in our children but in our society that expects something other than a hog to be produced when they are feed nothing but a hog lot diet. BD
