My sister does have a thyroid problem and she really has to take care of herself to keep the weight off.

So, even with health problems, weight loss can and does happen.
Thank you for validating my position. My first wife was overweight. I went through all the OA's, Weight Watchers, fad diets, religious retreats etc etc. Most of her friends were overweight and it was the same for them. 99.9% of the people who are long term overweight are overweight because they eat too much. I am overweight, I am 5'8" tall and weigh around 200 lbs. I suffer from dickydoo as a result (my stomach sticks out further than my dickie do). I am overweight because I eat too much, pure and simple (that and my entire exercise consist of once every quarter riding a golf cart around 18 holes and feeling good about it!!). By the way, when I graduated from high school I was 5' 8" tall and weighed less than 112 lbs. When I tried to join the Navy they told me they couldn't take me because if I lost so much as an ounce I would fall through my asshole and choke myself to death. They finally decided I was really only 5' 6" tall and actually weighed 115 lbs and fit the criteria.

Losing weight is not easy. Keeping from gaining is not easy, my metabolism changed 100 percent as I aged. However, if I didn't eat as much as I do I would not be overweight.

The other aspect of the first poster is that being overweigh is harmless. That is absolutely not true. Obese people suffer from high blood pressure more often, from heart attacks more often, kidney failure more often, orthopedic issues more often and other illnesses.

So, turning fat people into just another victim group might make anorexic people feel good but it does nothing to help anyone
