It was implemented to address historical problems with hiring.
Granted it created a new issue.
So how then are we to address discriminatory practices and ensure that those with greatest merit truly are hired?
Why aren't people as upset with cronyism and nepotism? (granted those issues will be even HARDER to address, but this doesn't really seem like a fairness issue, it seems more like sour grapes to me)
