Y'see, what they do is, they start with the hypothesis "If I spend an assload of money on my car, I think it will go faster." So, they try it out. They spend assloads of money on tweakin' their cars (this is the reaserch phase), then they get on a closed track (the laboratory) and find out if it worked (this is the experimental stage).

After about 1,000,000 trials, they've pretty much gone from theory to law: if you make a car go fast, it will go fast.

Pure science.

Once the Law of Goin' Fast to the Left is universally accepted, we're going to prove the Theory of Goin' Fast to the Right.

I'm doing my own corollary research paper entitled "Can too many endorsement ads create wind resistance, and if so, does the money from those sponsors allow one to add enough fast-car parts to his assload of parts to compensate for the drag?" The short title of the paper is "Lookit all 'em stickerz flappin, Larry Joe!"
That is actually funny and true. The first time I went to the Indy 500 was with my dad, a friend of mine and a GM engineer whose "fanaticism" about Motorsports was legendary. Unless you have seen an Indy Car or NASCAR event live do not knock it because once you do....you realize why there are 200,000 + fans in the stands. I love the "rush" of motorsports. I love the "science" of Motorsports. I love the craziness of the whole deal. I have never driven faster than 145 MPH but damn that was fun and I did it everyday for years as I was hooked on the adrenaline of it. The only reason I never went faster is because my car would not go any faster-Nissan300ZX. I did eventually have the big one rounding a 30MPH curve at (according to the police) somewhere between 90-95 MPH when I lrft the roadway. Except for breaking my back I was fine and still love the "danger"...
