One of the things I own is a small vending machine business that my wife and I run out of our home office. When one of our machines was stolen, the officer I tried to file a report with told me, "That's how it goes with those.", and he refused to file a report, or give me a case number. I personally, do not have a lot of faith in police. But then, I don't deal with them often. I'm not a criminal, so I guess I don't warrant their attention. My business isn't rated big enough to deserve protection. If they thought I was guilty of something, I'm sure I would get plenty of attention. Like the old woman on the side of the road being pulled over by 3 police cars.
