Even without Dorsey, they had so many chances to win. Obviously the free throws, they missed four out of their last five. When they grabbed the offensive rebound, after two FT misses and Rose was fouled, he makes two there the games over. .....he only makes one. Then why didn't Memphis foul instead of allowing Kansas to get up a 3 point shot? They foul, the game's probably over. So many chances, so many failures.
In the end though, Chalmers had to make a tough shot to put it into OT. Once he did that, the Jayhawks were going to be the Champions, OT was just a formality.

The ONLY two losses---TN and KS.
Both losses---other teams commit fouls on you, you miss free throws. Very simple and Calipari never really did fix that.
Self had to have looked at the tapes of the TN game and kept that in mind. It is such a simple thing...very stupid...but it worked and KS gets the title. The team withthe most wins does not always win the title (in fact, most of the time they don't).
There will be a new set of guys coming into Memphis, three top 100 recruits...one guard that is supposed to be like Derrick Rose (top ten). I suspect they will have to take a year before making a true run at the finals if that is going to happen. The other thing is keeping Calipari.
It takes several years to punch through to the top...Syracuse and Maryland can tell you this. Memphis has become better and better in the last eight years. THye have nothing to be ashamed of and have had an incredible three year run...they just need to make free throws.
It is still very fun team to watch. The string of players such as Carney, Williams, Douglass-Roberts, and Rose have been pretty damn good. They did take out a very highly touted UCAL team too (as well as long list of other top ranked teams).
