When it suddenly becomes necessary is the wrong time to make a belated decision that you wish you were carrying. I don't know one rational person who, when carrying, hopes he
does have to use a firearm. A firearm is only used as a last resort when all other options have either failed or been ruled out. In that situation, you or one you are protecting will surely be dead if you don't use it so that point is moot. As for jail, it's not good but it beats dead.
