because that isnt what makes you an agnostic... thats a common misconception of the definition of the word. but, to be an atheist is ALSO to admit not to know or to care about god. There was no theological word for "well, maybe". An agnostic is someone who rejects the principles of gnosticism, which believes in an ultimate knowable truth. An agnostic believes one can not know or rather there is no ultimate truth. It is easy to see how the definition was changed to mean not knowing about god.
