I'll just answer this question.
This seems to happen a lot. People have been in conversation with me and have randomly (in my opinion) brought up the fact that they are Christians. A guy introduced himself to me last year and the first thing he said to me is "I want you to know that I am a Christian." I have no idea why he would tell me that. Is it because he thinks that because he says this he is automatically better than someone who does not proclaim it to people they meet? Does it somehow make him better than someone else? Is he
more Christian because he tells me?
To me, it certainly does not mean that he is more moral or trustworthy than anyone else I know. I am Catholic, but I don't feel compelled to go around telling people for no apparant reason (I consider this an exception because religion is specifically being discussed). Not because I am ashamed, but more so because I don't see what relevance it has. Religion is a personal thing and I really do not care if someone practices the same religion as me or not. The only time that people would know that I am Catholic is if they see me in church or on Ash Wednesday, although some "Christians" have actually thought I just had dirt on my forehead.
I suppose it is not might not be that big of a deal, but it seems like people who tell you this somehow think that they have some moral authority whereas others do not. I am sure that not all people think this way, but unless religion comes up in the conversation I don't see why people tell you their religious beliefs.
