I think muslims see and hear what they want, more so than any other religion. Seems very defensive. Defensive behavior usually is caused by knowledge that one's behavior is wrong, but muslims seem to unite and exault in their anger like it's the one way the world will notice them.

Islam certainly doesn't encourage individualism does it, or self-conscious thought.

Why all this angst now and not say in the 1960s?

How would a denouncement of strict interpretation ever take place. What conditions?
