Being I only live about 30 minutes south of Portland, I was very interested in this story. Apparently, they've been handing out condoms since 2000 and have now moved on to birth control. basically, the deal is that when you go to this school the parents have to sign a waiver for their kids to be treated if they become ill. However, by signing that waiver the parents are also allowing the school to administer birth control (& condoms) at their own will. So, if a girl either wants birth control or wants an abortion, the school can set that up and NOT notify the parents.

The politicans here in Maine have all hidden under their desks. I called Sen. Snowe and and Gov. baldacchi's office and no one really wants to committ to anything. Snowe's office considers this a "local problem" and being she's a Senator I guess that means she can't have an opinion. What this rule does is effectively take the power and the teaching from the parents and puts it into the school system - without even telling you. This is about as disgusting, arrogant and socialistic an event as I have EVER witnessed from a school board. Yup, a school board whose powers are such that not even the Governor can over-ride the decision. This is your "far-left" community at work. Congratulations!
