You question was as stupid as asking if Iran negotiating with the Governor of Florida would work; he has no foreign relations responsibility or authority; he was sent to the US like Colin Powell was, to make statements to the media.

You must admit that he gets far more attention than the Iranians who are responsible for foreign policy do from the Bush administration or the US media. Lost on them is the role Iran played in the Afghanistan action assisting the US and NATO. Iran had been dealing with the Taliban as an enemy for a long time because they were trained in Saudi Salafi Islam an radicalized to be intolerant of anyone that didn't hew to Salafi Sunni faith.

Today marks an interesting day to respond with the reports and acknowledgments of the Bush administration running secret prison in various parts of the world in secret from the people of the nations in which they operate, using rules that were secretly developed by the Bush administration and kept secret from not just the people but also Congress.

We also hear that the Bush administration has detained in Iraq a member of the sovereign government of Iraq contravening the Constitution of a sovereign Iraq. In other words, meddling in the political affairs of Iraq.

So basically, the Bush administration is doing everything it accuses Iran of doing. Remember that Bush has advocated building more new nuclear weapons because he doesn't think the current 10,000 nukes are sufficient to protect America.

So, it amounts to Bush not being able to negotiate with himself because Iran has simply responded as the US has. Game theory says this will be a standoff until both are willing to change their game stategy and time is short for Hill to come into fix this Bush mess because Korea still has some months of work remaining before a significant milestone that won't be backtracked.

My guess is that a new president would be able to open relations with Iran in six months with an exchange of ambassadors in a year. All it requires is recognizing that nuclear weapons are of not use other than as a last resort in an invasion, but even then extremely ineffective response.
