Well, either enough wanted it or didn't want the Shah....one of the two. I admit, I don't know a great deal about what Carter could've or could not have done to have avoided the Iranian Revolution of 1979. At any rate, any attempt could have been decribed as more meddling on our part. We did that often in those days...including Iran since the 50s. I think Crow's point that this meddling is at least partially responsible for the Iranian Hostage Crisis is a valid point.
At any rate, I do not think we need to lose a lot of sleep over Iran. That doesn't mean we should leave the Gulf, etc. and not confront them when needed....just remember, calmer heads usually prevail.
