I can understand both sides of this argument. I am a smoker. Quitting is the easiest thing to do in the world. I have done it hundreds of times. I do have my own set of personal rules for this expensive, dirty habit.
I don't smoke in confined areas shared by non-smokers. ie. my house, when I am entertaining non-smoking company. In restraunts, I ask to be seated in non-smoking area, because I don't want to smell it while I'm eating. No smoking in my car (unless it's a llloooonnnggg ride, and even then the window must be down some and never with a child in the car), because while I may be careful, I have had smoking passengers that aren't and have had cigs fly back in and burn upholstery. I have only worked at one location that actually had an indoor smokers' breakroom, so it's not been that big a deal to smoke outside (though, I find in the winter, I'd rather curb my habit than freeze my ass off). As for smoking in bars.......I think it's stupid to bann smoking there. It hasn't relevence nowadays so much, I don't bar hop now, but in my 20's & 30's, I had several friends that were my "club hopping posse".
Rob, I will be in trouble if the day comes, my pets can rat me out to PETA. Granted, I'm not a "hard core" smoker. Usually it's 5-7 cigs a day. A pack can last me about a week.

But I do find many "no smoking" rules/laws do infringe on the personal right of choice.
