What difference does a year make? Why would it have been rape once the kid turned 18?

If the law is 18 years of age and not 17 then a year makes the difference between a minor and an adult.

I don't know about Georgia, but in some states a girl who is not yet 18 cannot legally give her consent.

You should find that out. Maybe I'll look it up. I'd be interested to know.

No they illustrate how society imposes standards that are not consistent.

I agree that some laws are inconsistent with others but let's focus on this particular issue.

And if this 15 year old girl can give her consent to a 17 year old, can she likewise give her consent to a 20 year old or a 30 year old or a 45 year old?

A 20, 30 or 40 year would be charged with statutory (sp.) rape as they should be in that case.

Not all. Not all 17 year olds are immoral.

Being 17 and thinking or having sex does not make you immoral. It makes you normal. It is the parents job of hopefully teaching their kids that sex brings about a lot of risk, responsibility and possible heartache. Calling a 17 year old kid immoral because he/she is curious, horny or engaging in sexual behavior does not make them immoral.
