Your honing in on the allegations that Forrest was involved with or was the founder of the klan reminds me of the old joke where in a small village someone ask this old resident how he got his name. Most of the villagers were named John the Builder, or Harry the Farmer. Well the man replied "See that bridge over there? I built that bridge, but am I known as Edward the Bridgebuilder? No" See that church over there? I built that as well but am I known as Edward the Churchbuilder? No" But you fuck one little goat.......

My point is that Forrest is not remembered for the things he actually did and his accomplishments as perhaps the greatest calvary officer ever, he is remembered for allegations that to this day have never been actually proven. I admire the man for his ability under fire and for his businesss acumen. Remember he lost everything he had after the war but rebuilt his fortune. Grant on the other hand went bankrupt and had to rely on friends for his later years
