As long as there are corrupt governments in Africa, all the aid in the world will not help the citizens. Mugabe, Zimbabwe's president, has instituted programs that have a direct impact on the country's economy and its homeless. In July 2005, Mugabe had his army raze neighborhoods in Harare. According to the UN, 700,000 have become homeless. Mugabe denies that this action was caused due to his opposition's support in the urban areas. He claims that the program is designed to get rid of the 'rubbish' and high crime areas.
Also, the white farmers were ordered off their lands. The lands were confiscated by the government. Mugabe said these farms would be taken over by his people; the farms are empty and nothing is growing. The result is starvation, homelessness and death.
As Mugabe was discussing the plight of the homeless with a UN ambassador, his army was destroying whole neighborhoods.
